A Thriller of a Good Time in Sacramento

Former Rapid City Thrillers and current Sacramento Kings head coach Eric Musselman was arrested for DUI early Saturday.
Musselman was pulled over at 2:15 a.m. about 11/2 miles from the State Capitol after his car was seen making a right-hand turn from the left-hand lane and cutting off another vehicle, said California Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Evan Williams.

Another man and two women were in Musselman's Mercedes. They were released, Williams said.

The 41-year-old coach failed three sobriety tests and had a blood-alcohol level of 0.11, according to the arrest report. The legal limit is 0.08.
Driving a Mercedes 1 1/2 miles from the State Capital? He sure has come a long way from his time with the Thrillers. Ten years ago he would have been fine driving his pick up 1 1/2 miles from the South Dakota State Capital because there are only two lanes and five people driving that time of night. I guess the increased threat of DUI is the price you pay for the night life in Old-Sac. Eric, as a South Dakotan who has spent some time in downtown Sacramento, get a cab next time. Also, be sure to visit the Pyramid Alehouse when your boozing it up in the capital city.

South Dakota Baseball Great Signs With St. Paul Saints

Former Rapid City Post 22 great Ben Thomas is having a much better day than his former teamate Mark Ellis who broke his right index finger in game two of the American League Division Series. Thomas recently signed a contract to play ball next year for the St. Paul Saints of the Northern League. Thomas who still holds the Post 22 single-season record for slugging percentage at .846 played third base/first base for the St. Joseph Blacksnakes last season. He hit .279 with 28 doubles, five home runs and 51 RBIs in 92 games.

Thomas who starred on the Post 22 team which won the American Legion World Series played college baseball for the Witchita Shockers. He spent parts of three seasons in the Atlanta Braves organization before signing with the St. Joseph.

Playoffs Update: Ellis Out

Jason Kubel did not play in game two of the American Leauge Division Series v. the A's. Mark Ellis of the A's went 2-4 with two singles. Unfortunately for South Dakota baseball fans, Ellis broke his right index finger in the ninth inning and will miss the rest of the playoffs. Ellis swung at a pitch from Twins closer Joe Nathan in the ninth inning that struck his right hand. He was replaced in the bottom of the ninth inning in the field by DeAngelo Jimenez. Ellis' injury leaves Jason Kubel as the lone South Dakotan remaining in the MLB playoffs.

Playoffs

Believe it or not there are a couple of ballplayers from South Dakota involved in the MLB playoffs. The South Dakota Sports Forum will continue to update their statistics throughout the playoffs.

Athletic's second baseman Mark Ellis from Rapid City went 0 for 3 with four men left on base. Belle Fouche native Jason Kubel did not play for the Minnesota Twins who were defeated by Ellis' A's 3-2.
